On March 25, 2015 multiple tornadoes hit west Tulsa. One of many families affected by this tornado is Mr. & Mrs. Adams. They had one elementary age daughter and nephew as well as Mr. Adams grandmother living with them. The tornado made a direct hit and completely destroyed their mobile home and all of their belongings. With no insurance, no money in the bank and limited resources, this family like many others, had no hope for moving forward.
Following the storm Mr. Adams mother had an old abandoned 1,200 square foot mobile home that she gave to them, but it was in need of much repair. After going through disaster case management the work was picked up by the OKUMC Disaster Response Ministry “OKUMC-DR”. On November 14 a team from Faith UMC in Tulsa volunteered and was assigned to this family. On this day the roof was coated with waterproofing, front porch built, electrical repaired, removed and replaced molded insulation and drywall, repaired subflooring, and installed laminate flooring. The family worked alongside the volunteer team all day, and were very thankful for all the hard work the volunteers did.
Following this work day, the Faith UMC team had been so moved by the family, that they committed to adopting the family to complete repairs needed as well as providing funds for servicing the heating unit, replace and install a new water heater, and make the Adam’s family Thanksgiving and Christmas as enjoyable as they can.
What a wonderful Blessing for this family. Faith UMC will receive a wonderful blessing for its helping heart. This Spirit of helping and giving was an uplifting blessing for our ministry at OKUMC-DR. Thank you Faith UMC, and all who helped and contributed to this success story.
