SBA Disaster Assistance Granted for Beckham County After May Storm

Press Release

Tuesday, June 6, 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin today announced that Beckham County may now receive disaster assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as a result of severe weather that occurred May 16-18.

The designation provides SBA low-interest disaster loans for homeowners and business owners in Beckham County to replace any property damaged by the storm that was not covered by insurance or other assistance programs. The loan program is also available to assist businesses that sustained economic injury due to the storm.

Under SBA rules, the contiguous counties of Custer, Greer, Harmon, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita are also eligible for assistance.

The state requested the SBA declaration for Beckham County on June 2 after damage assessments found more than 160 homes and businesses affected by the storms. Of those, 33 homes and businesses with major damage were identified as uninsured and may be eligible for SBA’s program. One death and multiple injuries were attributed to the storm.
